PAKENHAM VIC 3810 - Aged Care & Elderly Friendliness Review
Pakenham, Victoria 3135 is best suited to the country lifestyle retiree, aged care resident and their aged carer.
To begin, Pakenham is well outside the suburban fringe, right near to the Princes Highway. The main roads through Pakenham head north to Healesville and south to Koo Wee Rup. However, Pakenham is well serviced by public transport. It has one train station but several local bus services. Pakenham Station is the last electrified stop on the Pakenham line from the city. However, V-Line trains to and from Gippsland also serve Pakenham. These trains are diesel, not electric powered, and service rural areas. As such, they run less frequently. However, they provide comfortable access to explore the vast Gippsland area East of Melbourne. Together with V-Line coaches, you can explore almost every town in Gippsland without a car. V-Line provides a useful tool to plan your escapes. Plus, several bus services navigate local suburbs. These include the 840 to Gembrook, 927 & 929 to Pakenham North, 928 to Cardinia Road Station, 925 Lakeside via The Avenue and 926 via Fountain Gate Shopping Centre to Beaconsfield.
Speaking of Fountain Gate shopping centre, it is massive! In fact, it is spread over 3 floors and the second largest mall in Australia. As such, it has room for almost every type of shop and restaurant you could imagine. Better still, you won’t get bored with regular visits. They offer mobility scooter hire too, to help you cover all that ground. So, from MYER to ALDI, TGI Fridays to Village Cinemas – you are spoiled for choice. Locally, Pakenham is the major retail centre in the Shire, with an Aldi supermarket, 8 supermarkets, a Target store and several Bunnings type outlets. Plans are in place for further retail developments too as the area grows.
However, Pakenham is not as well serviced for medical services as one might hope. There are several excellent clinics in the area, such as the Casey Hospital, part of the Monash Health Group. Plus, there’s the Pakenham Super Clinic for all the day to day medical needs. However, Pakenham does not have a major public hospital. Importantly, there are several hospitals nearby. These include Ringwood Private, Knox Private and Mitcham Private hospitals. Maroondah Hospital, part of Eastern Health, is the nearest Public Hospital.
In summary, Pakenham is an outer suburban area on the very edge of Melbourne. Medium to low density housing defines the area. Further, several parks and walks are scattered throughout the area. However, the area is really suited to those who like to get out and about. After all, this far from the city centre, on the edge of Gippsland, all the fun is in the exploring! Nonetheless, Fountain Gate is close by and provides every modern entertainment. As such, if you like train trips, walks and a ‘country feel’, with a burst of modern entertainment thrown in (and you don’y mind travelling for everything), pakenham is worth a closer look.
