Press Release: Thursday 27 May 2021
As of 11:59pm Thursday 27 May, Victoria will enter a 7-day lockdown. Victorians will only be allowed to leave their homes for five reasons:
- Caregiving or compassionate reasons
- Shopping for necessary goods and services
- Authorised work
- Exercise for up to 2 hours with one other person
- Getting vaccinated – the vaccination program will also expand to include anyone aged 40 years and over (unpaid carers can already get vaccinated under phase 1b)
Face coverings must be worn indoors and outdoors except if at home, or if an exemption applies. Schools will close for the duration of the lockdown.
Carers Victoria would like to emphasise that caring for someone is one of the five reasons to leave home and is a legitimate and legal reason to travel beyond the 5km boundary from your home.
You are allowed to have visitors in your home, provided the visit is for caring or compassionate reasons, or to receive services.

If you have concerns in relation to the new restrictions, please phone Carer Gateway on 1800 422 737.
